After all the intense days, we slept in unusually late today and found the campsite almost deserted. The sun was shining, it was peaceful, and we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast in T-shirts and shorts. That alone felt like a small miracle. Later, we shared the hot tub in the swimming pool with a few Icelandic families who were relaxing in the sun, wearing sunglasses. It was the warmest day of our trip, with temperatures nearing 29 degrees Celsius! We simply let time flow and savored the rare warmth that Iceland had bestowed upon us.

At the harbor, we treat ourselves to ice cream, gaze across at the glacier, and feel a surge of gratitude. We’ve made this dream a reality. Together. And we’re so proud of it. From Höfn, we follow the coastal road towards Fáskrúðsfjörður. We’re in no hurry and see few cars, but plenty of mountains, the sea, and the ever-present shimmering light on the water. We stop at a bay teeming with swans and discover a large stone that looks like an egg. Little surprises like these always bring a smile to our faces in Iceland.

Finally, we reach a small fishing village, idyllically situated on the fjord. But we drive a little further and arrive in Fáskrúðsfjörður. The campsite is tiny and, apart from five other tents, almost empty. Jürgen conjures up a delicious dinner, and as the sun slowly sets, painting the sky in an indescribable display of colors, we sit there and let the day peacefully come to an end. Filled with warmth, gratitude, and the certainty: this is exactly why we are here, and this is where we want to stay—at least for another day.
