In the morning, luck knocks on our door: the repair service arrives, the tire is patched, and the support vehicle can continue its journey. Our destination today is Húsavík, a small coastal town that immediately captivates us with its charm.

The roads lead us down to the sea on our bikes, and in Húsavík we are greeted by colorful houses, cozy cafes with delicious coffee, and the open ocean. Húsavík is considered the center of whale watching, and as we stand at the harbor, we can vividly imagine the enormous creatures surfacing from behind the rocks. Unfortunately, a private whale watching tour doesn’t fit into our schedule, but at this point, we don’t yet know that Húsavík will captivate us in a completely different way that evening. Our campsite is beautifully situated on the edge of town, and to our great delight, there’s a swimming pool here too. In Iceland, we take every opportunity to soak in the warm hot pots, and this time is no exception. The water relaxes our muscles after the long drives, and we are always amazed at how naturally accessible Icelandic swimming pools are. Entry is even free for people with disabilities—a detail that touches us and shows how inclusive the thinking is here.

Finally, in the evening comes the grand highlight: the sun slowly bids farewell and disappears behind the horizon, plunging directly into the sea. Iceland is the land of long sunsets, and this evening, too, the sunset transforms into a gentle, almost magical spectacle of light. We sit there, letting the shadows grow longer and longer, and feel a magical tranquility settle over the small town. A moment to breathe, savor, and marvel.
