Today we’re taking it easy, processing yesterday’s experiences, and honestly, we’re just exhausted. The many kilometers, the nights in the tent, the emotional rollercoaster, and our aching bones all need some time, peace, and attention. We decide to stay another day in Fáskrúðsfjörður and spend it cycling, without luggage and without any time pressure. We want to cycle along the fjord to the sea – just for the sake of it, enjoying the solitude yet also the togetherness. By now, we’re good at traveling together while still being able to let our own thoughts wander. The sun shines brightly on us, we pedal at a leisurely pace, stopping frequently to take in the surroundings. We stop at the lighthouse at the head of the fjord, watch cows grazing in lush meadows, and enjoy a day that, despite the forecast of rain, has clear skies and brilliant sunshine. Reaching the top, a strong wind whips around our faces. We pause to enjoy the scenery, collect stones, and watch the waves. The hours fly by. Everything feels slowed down, peaceful, and intense all at once. In the evening, we return to the campsite and end the day with a warm soak in the hot tub of the neighboring village. We have two more days left on this beautiful island.
